You Learn a Lot in College

I should be practicing right now, but I needed to write.

Yesterday, I was able to experience real-life juxtaposition. I was able to see the drastic differences in human beings. I don't know what causes these differences, but I am so grateful for the guys out there who are respectful, who possess a fabulous sense of humor, who consistently make me laugh (and laugh with all of me), who want to get to know me as the person rather than the pretty toy, who teach me things in a way that I don't feel belittled, who are bright with the light of Christ.

And, in a way, I'm grateful for the guys out there who throw their arm around me like I'm suddenly their's even if we've only just met, who make me feel icky, who have the stupid male ego that they have to satisfy at my expense, who I simply don't feel comfortable around. I'm grateful for them because it makes me realize just how much more rare and precious those other guys, the bright ones, are. It makes me recognize that there is still light out in the world, and that I can find friends who are like that.

Mostly, yesterday gave me a bit of social whiplash. But you know what? I know where I need to go from here, I know who to stay away from and who to spend time with. And things will be good. But right now, I'm just grateful for this insight. You learn a lot in college.
