Food and Finding Our Way

Today was a big day. I'm on kitchen duty this week which is nice (because I get it over with) but also relatively time-consuming. I'll be done with it on Monday and then I suppose I'll feel like I have all sorts of time!

After cleaning up the kitchen we had an orientation meeting that lasted for a couple of hours. We had to be back for kitchen duty by 3:30 today so we had a few hours to kill. We went to Nando's and ate some amazing chicken, and then we walked around Hyde Park for an hour or two. Hyde Park is and Kensington Gardens are probably my two new favorite places in the world! I could easily spend all my time there, but then it would be difficult to do the assignments that send me out into the city. I suppose I'll have to find some sort of balance.

In Hyde Park we found. . .

The Fairy Tree!
This was in a playground section of the park and it had painted carved figures into the tree. It was magical and I loved it.

More of the children's playground area:

Do you see those COLORS?! Oh my goodness I feel like I'm just now discovering the color green.

We found the gardens and they were amazing and I adore them and I would be content to spend every day of my life in them.

Caitlyn is excited

We met some ENORMOUS birds. Seriously. The pigeons were the biggest I've ever seen. And the swans posed for us which was ever so kind.

We then had dinner and went on a walk (for our London Walks class). This particular walk took us to the more functional, but also seedier, section around which we live. We got a little bit lost in Notting Hill (which turned out to be fine because 1. We got back to the Centre, and 2. The houses were incredibly beautiful and we got some good pictures), but we made it back safe and sound.

The Queen's Ice Rink. There was a worker who showed up in the doorway and posed for me just after I snapped the picture.

Gothic architecture. There are incredible cathedrals and churches everywhere. And, even cooler, they're old!

This is the mall in which one of the girls in our group, Kenna, was roped into getting a free make-over by a mall kiosk woman. She ended up with more orange on her face than is normal for anyone (except ballroom dancers before a competition), but it came off.

Of course, upon entering the mall, the group headed for H&M. Apparently the stuff was different enough to make it worth it, though, and I didn't mind the place.

Caitlyn is mirroring an image on the shirt Lizzie is holding up. They should probably consider becoming models...

We found this odd store with mannequins wearing hats with their hair coming out the top. Caitlyn decided to join their ranks momentarily.

Christine and Sarah

Me and Lizzie. Apparently taking a normal picture isn't possible for me to do here in London.

Okay so we found this pizza place called "Bite Me" and on the side there was this weird mural. . .

. . .of Obama, the Queen, and Arnold Schwarzenegger eating pizza. No big deal.

This was just a really pretty building in the middle of the street.

And another on the side.

This is when we were lost. The view made it worth it, though.

This was a gorgeous church that had burn marks all over it.

And now it's time for bed! I can't wait to see what tomorrow will bring.

*Also I'm not proofreading this and it was written by a woman suffering severely from jet lag so. . . sorry but not really. :)*

  1. Ah, kitchen duty. I remember it well. And I LOVE the Peter Pan playground in Hyde Park. I have always wanted to take Toby there. Notting Hill is amazing. Have you visited Whiteley's yet? I love Whiteley's.
